ABOUT LEKA

Our story began when a mother of two was stuck inside on a rainy Oregon day with nowhere to take her young children. Elisabeth, originally from Sweden, began to imagine an intimate, beautiful and welcoming indoor space where even the youngest children can learn through play. LEKA [‘play’ in Swedish] was born.

She enlisted the help of Grace, educator and former school administrator, to curate toys that would support a blend of Waldorf, Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies. Together, they designed multiple themed play rooms filled with gender neutral low-tech toys, handmade with natural materials that lend themselves to imaginative play; all designed with the youngest children in mind.

But, it’s not just about the kids. It was a must to make parents feel at home and relaxed at LEKA as well. Our beautiful, organic, and modern interior design provides an immediate sense of ease and comfort as one enters the play area. Comfortable adult seating is available in every room along with fast and free wi-fi. A coffee station in our community room for refueling on those sleepy days. The restroom is fully stocked with diapers, changing table, toddler seat, potty seat and anything else one could possibly need on a day out with the kids.

We’ve been featured on KOIN and Fox12 and in December 2021 we got nominated for the best indoor play space in Portland by PDXParent. For press inquires, please email info@lekaplayland.com.

LEKA is an amazing place for young children to play and learn, montessori-style. The toys are very high-end and most are made of natural materials. The admission fee is incredibly reasonable especially since you’ll have in-and-out privileges throughout the day. It’s also very clean and I’m glad that they’re conscientious enough to require proof of vaccination for adults.
